The year is 1070 and Elena is living
in a convent, not as a nun but as a girl sent there
as a child when her parents died of the fever. The Sisters
had hoped to raise the young girl to take her vows,
but Elena's rebellious nature was too strong, much to
the Sisters' consternation.
Elena had always been warned never to speak
to Father Wulfstan's visitors but one day while grudgingly
gathering herbs for Sister Winifred's medicines she sees a
man in the woods whom she discovers is a Saxon rebel, to her
disgust, who's seeking refuge at the convent. His obvious
appraisal of her and his words meant to entice her leaves
her warm in places she never knew existed, yet blames it on
the heat of the summer because of her dislike of the rebel.
During the Saxon's short visit to the convent
it's raided by Norman's and Elena finds herself being taken
hostage to be sent to the notorious Aimery le Sabrenn, lord
of Thorsfield, and made his slave. Her captor taken with her
beauty though and means to have her before he takes her to
his lord, not knowing that she's a virgin. His efforts are
thwarted though when he's attacked and knocked unconscious.
Elena is horrified to learn that her savior
is none other than le Sabrenn and she's stuck by fear. He
tells her that he won't hurt her, and as time passes he is
his word. Though he still treats her as a slave he has a special
place for her in his heart, but Elena falls in love with him.
Aimery la Sabrenn is a most fearsome warrior.
His reputation has spread far and wide over the countryside.
He's known as much for his prowess on the battlefield as he
is in the bedroom. His concubine Isobel has always managed
to keep him satisfied but when Elena comes into his life he
suddenly finds that Isobel's gestures are less and less pleasing.
Aimery's Saracen slave, Hamet, has always been infatuated
with Isobel so steals into her bed in place of Aimery, as
it will give him more time with Elena.
Isobel knows what's going on though and she
won't stand for it. She plots with her handmaid, Alys, to
get Elena into Isobel's chamber to teach her a lesson she'll
never forget. She's thwarted when Aimery finds them and is
horrified to see what's happening. For a second time in Elena's
short life Aimery has saved her from certain molestation.
Isobel knows that she's loosing her beloved Aimery and will
do anything to keep him.
"Elena's Quest" is as much a historical
romance as it is pure erotica. The medieval setting, well-developed
characters and intense storyline will keep readers of historical
fiction/romance as entranced as the many and varied sexual
scenarios. Ms Allen shows great writing talent. I'll be looking
for future releases from her.
