Seasoned author Claire Delacroix, writing as Claire Cross, proves her talents once more with her latest Fantasy Romance "The

Last Highlander". This is a tale woven of rich history, age old fables and breathtaking scenery. Endearing characters and an intricate story line make the transition between the centuries so seamless that one seems to meld with the other. But above all else, this magical story is of a love so great that it spans nearly 700 years.

On the highest turret of Edinburgh Castle, Alasdair MacAulay is confronted by a strange old woman. With a gleam in her eye she tells Alasdair that he is the one "to venture into the beyond". Now, trapped in 1997, everyone and every thing he's ever known has disappeared. And this golden haired warrior must find the legendary Morgaine le Fee, for only her sorcery can send him home. When he meets Morgan LaFayette Alasdair is convinced that she is the legendary sorceress and seeks to win her favor. Though she's promises to help him he's not prepared when he's forced to realize that he may have found his soul mate. Now he must chose between all that is familiar to him or a life with Morgan in her world.

Morgan LaFayette is an illustrator on working holiday in Scotland. She is virtually led by the hand by her sister and brother?in?law as they tour Medieval ruins, meander villages and search old records for the tales Morgan will bring to life through her drawings. Though Morgan can bring such passion to her artwork, she can't seem to bring any to her own life. Abused ten years before in a relationship gone bad she now has a hard time trusting men. And when mysterious Alasdair MacAulay shows up she's overwhelmed by his affections and odd behavior. It's his tales that keep her mesmerized, continually drawing her back to his side. When she finally realizes that she can love again she must face that which you love the most must eventually be set free.

"The Last Highlander" is a touching and heartwarming story. I was intrigued by the countless fables and the attention to detail. Though Cross's characters are of two worlds, she was able to maintain each of their individualities. Alasdair retains the distinctive characteristics of a 14th century warrior while Morgan in an independent and strong 90's woman. Cross's characters are easy to love and the story is fast paced. Anyone looking to escape with a Highland rogue will definitely love "The Last Highlander."
