Samantha James does it again with "A
PROMISE GIVEN". It's an intricate tale woven in
mystery and intrigue, romance
and rich
history. Set in the Highlands of Scotland
in 1306, Robert the Bruce is fighting for the freedom of Scotland.
Spies run rampant and treachery infiltrates even through the
tightest family bonds. And yet two hearts, at war themselves,
find a way to come together in a love so strong that it overcomes
all of their darkest nightmares.
Ian MacGregor battles alongside the Bruce
for Scotland. He's seen the ravages war can bring. But he's
in no way prepared for the hardship and heartache brought
about by marrying stubborn and willful Sabrina Kincaid. Ian
is forced to marry Sabrina when her sister Margaret, his betrothed,
turns up missing. To fulfill his pledge to the Kincaid family,
Ian weds Sabrina for the sake of peace. He has no idea what's
in store for him and is rocked when his feelings of love and
desire for her grow to dizzying heights.
Sabrina Kincaid has no idea how her secretly
betrothed, Jamie, will take her marriage to their sworn enemy.
Jamie keeps Sabrina waiting on his promise of marriage while
he's busy fighting for England. When Sabrina is forced to
marry Ian against her will she must make some life?altering
decisions that will be her undoing. Treachery and deception
drive her into the arms of her husband, Ian, for comfort.
She is torn between her love of Jamie and her loyalty to her
husband when she realizes what a kindred spirit she has in
Ian. Behind his mask of seeming indifference lays the man
of Sabrina's dreams.
"A Promise Given" is a promise kept,
even by this seasoned author. Samantha James's works are consistent
'must reads'. Though this story reminded me a bit of "Braveheart",
there's no mistaking her unique style of story telling. Vibrant
characters, accurate historical research and a complex story
line will move "A Promise Given" to the top of any
ones 'to be read' pile!
