Best selling author Samantha James has
quietly been making her name synonymous with all things
historically romantic. And after
several years of climbing the ladder
of success she has now joined the ranks as one of America's
best selling authors. Samantha's last title "One Moonlit
Night" earned her a prestigious slot in USA Today's "Best-selling
Book List", which was amazing as the book was a December
release. Now she intrigues us further with her current release
"His Wicked Ways".
Meredith Munro is the only daughter to clan
leader "Red Angus". Her mother long dead, Meredith
has reason to believe her life in jeopardy within the walls
of her father's castle and begs him to ensconce her in the
nearby priory of Connyridge. Reluctantly he agrees. It's not
but a few years until Meredith is accosted in her cell by
a man claiming to be Cameron MacKay, chieftain of her families
mortal enemy! Cameron forces her to write her own suicide
note to the prioress before she is dragged her from the priory.
His men have found the body of a woman who looks amazingly
like Meredith, and after a quick switch of their clothes,
they toss the dead body over a cliff. Meredith is mortified
but she's also afraid of what the MacKay has in store for
her.
Cameron MacKay is clan leader but only by
default. His father and many brothers were murdered in cold
blood and it was Cameron who saw the tuft of shockingly red
hair of the gang's leader as he lay in his own pool of blood.
Red Angus! He vowed then and there to get the revenge his
family, and clan, deserve for the murders. And his revenge
would come with abduction of the Red Angus's only daughter.
By forcing her to pen her own suicide note he will lead Angus
to believe that his daughter is dead and thus will begin his
revenge. It will end only when Meredith gives him back some
of what he'd lost in his families death. A son!
"His Wicked Ways" is a roller coaster
ride of adventure through the Scottish Highlands. Heather covered
hillsides, roadside bandits, and sexual electricity fill the
pages, and 13th century Scotland is brought to vivid life. Readers
can nearly smell the rain in the air and feel the horse beneath
their seats. And the sub-characters are as well thought out
as the hero and heroine. Sexy temptress Moire has the eyes of
the men of the Dunthorpe Castle yet it's also believed that
Cameron will marry her. Egan is Cameron's closest friend yet
the reader will doubt their trust in him when Cameron's life
is threatened. And even Red Angus's character will have you
wondering if he was responsible for the deaths of Cameron's
family or not. I have always enjoyed Samantha James's books
but haven't actually read one in a long time, until this book.
And after a story of this quality I wonder why I haven't picked
up more of her books in the past. "His Wicked Ways"
certainly gets my vote of approval...and a second read!
