In the third installation of the Irish Blessings series by the writing team of Mary Lou Frank and Susan C Stevenson writing as

Elizabeth Keys, little sister Meagan Reilly has the chance to tell her story. " 'Tis a sound once heard that lingers on. A sight once seen and never forgotten. A feeling once felt, always remembered" is the blessing that's been handed down by the late Granny Reilly. Until now, the blessing has been male dominated but a very young Meagan is sure that she will receive it as well. When she received an innocent kiss from a family friend she's unable to explain the feeling that comes over her suddenly but believes that the family blessing must be something just as intriguing.

Meagan Reilly is the younger sister to the Reilly brothers of Beannacht Island. While her brothers are busy making their fortunes in the family shipping business Meagan finds herself at a bit of whit's end so decides to study medicine. She's become enamored with Florence Nightingale's practices and puts her energies into gaining donations from the gentry in Limerick in order to open a nurses training center in the city.

Meagan's life is about to change when she finds herself taking a dare during the tea party of a friend, to kiss the first person who enters the parlor. She accepts believing the kiss to be an innocent one given to a member of the household whom she knows. To her shock, it's not family who enters but a very handsome gentleman. More shocking, her kiss sparks something special inside her. The kiss is so riveting that she nearly allows herself to be swept away by it. There's also something familiar about the man but she can't put her finger on it.

Nicholas Mansfield, Lord Ashton, isn't sure what stunned him more. The reception he received on walking into the parlor or the reaction he had to the kiss. Either way, Nick kinds it difficult to keep the lovely Meagan from his mind. Something is familiar about her too.

One day Nick finds himself being rescued by this same beauty as a stray cart nearly kills him on the streets of Limerick. If it wasn't for the accident Nick would have taken the opportunity to get to know the woman better. But he is reminded of many other accidents that have plagued him lately and his mind is drawn back to the reason he's in Limerick to begin with…his investigation in to mysterious happenings revolving around the death of his parents and the company they were involved with.

As with the other Irish Blessing books in the series I was disappointed in the number of historical inaccuracies. Especially in that Meagan is allowed to study medicine, and as an Irish woman in the time when the Irish were the most suppressed by the British, her acceptance in the homes of gentry's homes as an equal when historically she would have been the servant and not the guest. And certainly not the love interest of a proper English gentleman.

Suspending my knowledge in Irish history and forgetting the setting is Irish, I found "Reilly's Heart" to actually be an enchanting story. Meagan's "woman of tomorrow" personality gives her character strength to pursue her own heart and desires. The use of a family blessing adds something quaint to an otherwise typical type of story.

The team of writers that make up Elizabeth Keys are talented writers, there's no doubt. But it would be my hope that future books would be a bit more historically accurate.
